Allah has mentioned the life story of the prophets from various eras. People's Sins and deeds are recorded in the Quran as lessons for the next generation. the real event that occurred in prophets' life and how they dealt with them and how Allah helped them to overcome everything, is in the Quran so, we can learn how to live our lives as Muslim and true disciples of Allah.
Allah has mentioned many events that occurred during the era of Lut Alaisalam.
When Ibrahim Alaisalam was cast in the fire and came out safely, Lut was the only one among those people who believed in Ibrahim.
Lut Alaisalam:
When Lut Alaisalam became Prophet Allah gave him a mission to call the people of Sodom and Gomorrah toward Islam and one God Allah.
Scholars say Allah SWT described the sodom tribe as worst as possible in Quran because of their shameful acts.
They committed such sins and crimes which were no tribes have done before. They were spreading corruption on Earth.
Why does Allah describe them as the worst possible? What were their crimes?
They were disobedient and disbelievers
Sodom was the most corrupted and evil city in history. They denied his prophet [Quran 26:160]
When prophet Lut (peace be upon him) said: oh! people of Sodom, don't you fear Allah? I'm the messenger who you can trust. Fear Allah and accept me [Quran 26: 161,162,163]
They began to blame him and said: He came to stop what we are doing so he can gain something out of it.
Lut (peace be upon him) said: I don't want any payment from you my recompense with Allah [Quran 26:164]
Allah also mentioned one of their shameful crime which has never been experienced before by the whole World. That's homosexuality.
When Lut (peace be upon him) told his people you committed sins that no one has done before.
Then he directly mentioned their crimes to them.
"How can you engage with yourself with the same gender? [Quran 26:165].
How can prefer men over females? Indeed you people crossed the limit of Allah. [Quran 26: 166].
Lut (peace be upon him) said: you shamefully engage in this activity while people are seeing [Quran 27:54].
Their sinful act:
They were sexually attracted to other men as men. It's not like only a few people engaged in such a sinful act but the whole tribe was involved in this. they didn't even keep it hidden, they were disclosing it openly and very proud of it. It became a very natural thing among them. They became shameless.
Lut said:
I'm not part of you and I will never engage in this. I want to make it clear that I oppose you very strongly and warn you of severe punishment to come from Allah SWT.
People said: we need to kick Lut (peace be upon him) and his family out of our community because they are the people who claim to be very clean and they look at us as if we are very dirty.
Final call:
But Lut keep calling them to Allah, remained them to fear Allah and warned them to stop what you are doing. This is an evil act.
But people would become more aggressive on lut ( peace be upon him). They forbid him from talking to anyone.
When Lut ( peace be upon him) kept reminding them about Allah's punishment.
The people of Sodom responded with oh! But, bring us the punishment of Allah to us now! If you are truthful. (Quran- 29:29)
And sadly no one in the whole tribe of Sodom become Muslim but only one household was Muslim that's Lut (peace be upon him) and his daughter but not his wife.
Then Lut (peace be upon him) made dua:
"oh my lord protect me against the corrupting people. Quran (29:30)
And said save me and my family from the consequence of what they do Quran (26:169)
The travellers:
In the meantime, three handsome good looking young men enter the city of Sodom.
Lut's daughter saw them from far entering the city. She ran toward her father and informed her father about these two travellers.
Lut (peace be upon him) welcomed them with the intention was too convincing them to go back. But he was embarrassed to tell them to go back. When he asked them, who are you? They said we are guests. Lut is embarrassed to reject them and Muslims should never reject a guest.
Lut(peace be upon him) tries to give them hint by saying I never saw more corrupt than this city. And he constantly repeats it so he can convince them to leave the city as soon as possible.
Lut (peace be upon him) takes those men into his house and does not let anyone see them But Lut's wife was a non-believer When she saw these young men she went out to the men and informed them by saying
"Lut has three attractive young men in his house".
Then the people of Sodom (the men) started coming to the Lut's house. Quran (15:67)
By telling each other about those three young men.
They reached there and started to knock on his door.
Lut said: don't embarrass me in front of my guests .you have no respect for guests.
But these people didn't listen to him and started banging on the door. They were about to break the door. Now he was concerned about his guests.
Lut said: These are my daughter if you would be a doer of marriage (Quran 15:71)
He told them you can marry a female (daughter of Ummah)
Rather than engaging in sinful acts with males
The reaction of the people oh! But you know we are not interested in girls and you know what exactly we want (Quran:11:79)
Lut's prayer and answer of angles:
Lut was worried and said I wish I could have any power against them so that could protect us here.
Those three men spoke up: Lut ( peace be upon him) we are the messenger of Allah and these people will never reach you. (Quran:11:81)
We are the angles and they will never be able to harm you.
Then jibreel Alaisalam goes out to them and with the one hit, he made them all go blind.
They were not able to see anything anymore.
They said: what is this magic just hit us?
Where did this come from? Oh, Lut are you behind this? You'll see what we will do Tomorrow. They went back home by touching the wall. So they can plan to destroy Lut.
Allah says in Quran: Lut leaves this community by night and go as far as possible and do not turn back beside your wife.
Arrival of punishment:
These people's final time is in the early morning. So go immediately from this city as fast as you can go. So Lut took his daughter and went.
Now Allah punished these people in three different ways.
In the early morning, they had an awful cry. It was so loud that started shaking them
Allah instructed the Jibreel Alaisalam to get back to his original form and he grab the whole city from the edge of his wing lift it to the heavens
The Angeles of heaven heard the crying and screaming of the people of Sodom.
Then Jibril Alaisalam twisted the whole land and collapse it all upside down on the ground (Quran:15:74)
And at last, rained upon them a stone of hard clay (Quran:15:74)
It destroys the whole Sodom city and everything in it.
Lut (peace be upon him) warned them about Allah's punishment but they didn't believe him.
They continued harming him and keep engaging in sinful acts.
Their sings:
Allah says we kept their signs for all of you to see who comes after them. When you go to the dead sea you'll see what happened to the people who didn't believe in Allah and his prophet.
Allah hu Akbar.
May Allah guide us and protect us from such punishment and sinful acts. Ameen.
